Thats not what this is about, not close.
No one is saying that he is a saint or a wonderful person. But what is being said is that a dog's life, a pet with no cognitive thought, is more valuable than Mike Vick's. Or any other person who has not committed a terrible, heinous act against another person.
We've used Vick since thats what the OP is about. It isnt about making this man a hero, its about implying that a dog's life is more valuable than Vicks. Which I find totally, 100% absurd. Vick committed a terrible act. No doubts there. No one is disputing that.
But he spent serious time in PRISON, he paid for his act. At this point, the question was is Vicks life more valuable than a dog. Not if Vick is an awesome hero, thats not the question at all. Its about the value of a human life over a dog.
I just dont get it. People are so much more important and vital than dogs, I cant see the logic behind claiming that a common house pet is more valuable than a human being trying to live right.
I had a cat I absolutely loved. Her name was Minnie, she was basically a family member. We had her almost 15 full years. She was awesome, one of my favorite things in the world.
But her life, no matter how much I cared for her, was NOT as important as Vick, or another decent human being. Not even close.
A pet with no cognitive thought? Sorry, Biggin, but that's wrong. Dogs and cats have cognitive thought. They think and feel as we do. They just don't have the mental capacity to understand it all. They even have their own personalities. They really are like kids. Only difference is they can't talk and tell what's going going on with them. Even though I feel the way I do about our chihuahua I will acquiesce one point. They aren't equals to humans. But they are just as valuable. You might as well say mentally challenged people or other problems cause some people to be less valuable. Their value is not in what they are but what they give and have to offer. And Vick has nothing to offer of value other than his bank account and entertaining ability on the field. And that don't make the world go around. Our Chi Chi offers love, companionship, laughs, fun, and even cheers us up when we're down. And as a human I can't get past Vick's past. Another shortcoming pets do not share. They truthfully forgive and forget. When it all comes down to it, it can't be are they more valuable? It's are they more valuable to you? And that's a matter of personal opinion and a large grey area. No definite right or wrong. I think this topic is best left at agree to disagree.
Just when you think it's dead somebody comes reviving it with a link. ;)
